The Northern Illinois Transport Team conducts all its transports free of charge but we need your help. We are DESPERATELY in need of medium to large sized car carriers to accomplish our goal. If you would like to donate your used carrier, please hover over our DONATE link and chose the CARRIERS link from the dropdown. One of our representatives will be in touch and a driver will be dispatched to pick up your carrier if you reside in the northeast corner of the state.
We are also accepting monetary donations for incidentals incurred while doing our transports. As before, please hover over the DONATE link and choose DONATE FUNDS.

As of January 11, 2016 NITT has conducted 551 transports resulting in 1149 lives saved after only 724 days in existence! Saves are only counted if the animal was at a high kill shelter or in a situation that was dangerous and would have resulted in the animals death if not moved. We have transported a total of 782 animals (all but 14 were cats, 10 bunnies, 3 dogs and one Guinea hen, all which also counted as lives saved).
The Northern Illinois Transport Team (NITT) was formed after coming across the daily plight of cats at the Chicago Animal Care and Control shelter. Classified as a high kill shelter, volunteer members at the facility post daily pictures of cats needing rescue. Also noted were the many urgent requests for transports to willing fosters and adopters in the Chicagoland area who did not have the means to get to the facility by closing time.
A decision was made to create and develop a depository of willing drivers and hosts who could assist in transport and thus, the creation of NITT. Volunteers were solicited from the CACC Cat Transfer Team page and other Facebook rescue groups and were urged to refer anyone who may be interested. We specialize in the rescue of felines since so few specialized resources are available to them, but it is our policy to not turn down any animal in need.
We are looking to expand far outside the original geographical area we had first identified (Northern Illinois). To date we have completed 15 transports to Indiana, Central Wisconsin, and one to Iowa.
